If your childhood was a fragrance, what would the notes be ?
✥ Hey angels, I saw this journal prompt written by MuseumofMe on Instagram, also known as Julyssa Rose, and I loved it the second as I read it. It made me think, because it has been so long since I've thought of every smell, every sight, every memory of my childhood, reminiscing back I overflowed with love all over again. One of the main things I fondly remember was being outside. I didn't necessarily "grow up" in New York because I went to school in another state, so I ended up in the countryside for quite some time. A lot of the time you will smell the dewiness of the morning air, smokey nights, and the freshness of the afternoons. But when I visited home, it was completely different, although there were some similarities. There was the dense yet fresh air of the mornings, the dampness of the afternoons, and of course, the ash of the night. And even between those, there were more scents. I became overwhelmed with how much I could remember, I didn't think I could, but it really was as if I was there once more. And I enjoyed it. I remembered where I spent most of my time in these spaces, what that felt like, sounded like, and even what the scent traces of those memories would be. So it was a lot to take in at once, yet I couldn't stop writing.
To begin, I will start off with what the base would smell like. This is the general space where I spent most of my time in which was outside. I'd watch and dance in the rain, sit in the morning fog, play with bugs and make potions, and I loved long walks and bike rides :
Next, the heart notes. This would be the significant items and emotions. Some of these are not so obvious, for example: ginger, green pepper, and vanilla. Ginger, although I would consider a kind of freshness, isn't one I would associate with a scent for nature, but rather emotions. It has such a sweet warmth, not in a way you would think vanilla is, which is a heavy, sultry, calming scent. The green pepper is airy, light, with a slight warmth that I compare to joy and nostalgia. This is very similar with ginger as well. The smell of leather totals the smell of New York and my grandpa's van I used to love being in. My grandpa played a huge part in my life, but quietly, without even knowing he was. His two signature scents were coffee and cigarettes :
✥ To end this entry I thought it would be a fun idea to search a fragrance that is close to the one I've created, and funny enough I found one that I already have ! Gloria Vanderbilt fragrance is actually one of my favorites to wear. It has an almost vintage smell that captures a nostalgic feel. ( Highly recommend. )
I loved doing this so much ! If you would like to respond to this entry on your own, I listed a notes chart you could use ! :o))
